Bersoft Word HTML CleanUp 1.0

Why cleaning up Word HTML files?

The main reason is that when you save a file as a Web page in Microsoft Word, the Word program inserts HTML tags into the HTML document that are Microsoft-specific. As such, these proprietary tags do not meet the international HTML standards established by the World Wide Web Consortium.

What this means is that if you save your Word document as a Web page and then upload that Web page to a server or compile it with HyperMaker or WebPacker, it is likely that your page will not look exactly in the same way you intended.

How to clean up Word HTML files

Although you can use Bersoft Word HTML CleanUp 1.0 (BWHCU) to clean up Word HTML files, to get the best result it would be better to clean up the files with Office 2000 HTML Filter and only then use BWHCU to finish the work.

  1. Download the HTML Filter 2.0 for Office 2000 self-extracting executable file from Microsoft Tools on the Web at:
    http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/2000/Msohtmf2.aspx
  2. Click on Options button, Office 2000 HTML Filter main screen, and configure it as shown here:

  3. Clean up all the HTML files produced with Word using the Office filter.
    1. Add all files to the list with Add button.
    2. Click Apply to process them.
  4. Download and install the free Bersoft Word HTML Cleanup 1.0 at:
http://bersoft.com/bwhcu/bwhcu.exe (378 KB size) or see screenshot.
  5. Clean up again all the HTML files produced with Word using BWHCU.

Warning: backup your files before cleaning up them, both Office 2000 HTML Filter and BWHCU may damage some of them.
